Talking with Blink-182's bassist/singer Tom DeLonge
at Warped Tour 1999
Tom: Do you guys mind if I take off my pants? I usually do interviews naked.
Jas: How long did the album...
Tom: 2 and a half months!
Jas: You've got all the answers huh?!
Tom: I know them all.
Jas: Okay, who had the idea for the...
Tom: ...the director!
Jas: No, for the album cover.
Tom: The artwork director [laughs]. Well the label said, "Hey what should we do?" We're like an enema's medical let's get a big, voluptous nurse for the front cover, we said.."Who?"..they said, "A pretty lady," we said, "What would be an edgy pretty lady?" they said "How about an adult film star?" So we got Janine.
Jas: And loserkids.com ...
Tom: Loserkids.com is an online retail shop that Mark and I started. 30 companies, girls clothes, guy clothes, skate boarding accessories, surfing accessories, snow boarding accessories. In a couple months there will be 200,000 music titles....
Jas: So why did you start the shop?
Tom: ..and blink merchandise. Just a little something on the side, a little business. Money. Moolah. Dinero. To get the people involved in other things that we think are cool, that you can only have access in Southern California.
Jas: Are you enjoying Warped? Met any other bands?
Tom: Yeah, yeah. I haven't really talked with Ice-T or Eminem though.
Jas: The album did really well on the charts when it first came out, were you surprised by that?
Tom: Yeah, anytime my band does good we get surprised.
Jas: You're not proud of yourselves then?
Tom: Yeah, we're proud of ourselves. I pat myself on the back and the front. I pat myself on the front all the time!! I go, "Good Job!!" [laughs] We were all surprised, we were all really stoked. We're really proud this album we think its the best work we've ever done so we therefor think it should do better than our previous stuff, but at the same time that anything does good, we're still blown away though.
